Download TalkFerry

A Windows app for voice chat in games and social VR, and an Android app for face-to-face conversations. One account and one minute balance for both.

5 free minutes on every new account. No card needed.

TalkFerry for Windows

For VRChat, Discord and PC games. It translates your microphone into a virtual microphone and subtitles what others say.

Download for Windows

Version 1.0.0, 30 MB. Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.

What you need

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
  • An internet connection. Translation runs in the cloud.
  • A microphone, and headphones rather than speakers, so the translation is not picked up again
  • A Google account to sign in, or the TalkFerry phone app to pair with
  • No graphics card requirement and no API key

What the installer adds

  • TalkFerry itself, for your Windows user, with a desktop and a Start menu shortcut. This part needs no administrator permission.
  • VB-CABLE, a free virtual audio cable made by VB-Audio, downloaded from its maker, if you do not have it yet. It is how the game hears the translation. Windows asks for administrator permission because it is a driver.
  • Microsoft WebView2, if your PC does not have it yet. The panel is drawn with it.

Set up the Windows app

  1. Install

Run TalkFerry-Setup.exe. When it offers the audio cable, accept it, then restart the PC. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, choose More info, then Run anyway.

  2. Sign in

Open TalkFerry from the desktop icon. Choose Pair with phone and scan the QR code with the Android app, or sign in with Google in your browser.

  3. Choose the cable in your app

In VRChat, Discord or your game, set the microphone to CABLE Output. In VRChat also enable OSC for chatbox subtitles.

  4. Turn on Translate

Pick the language you speak and the one they should hear. Microphone and headphones are chosen automatically; change them in Settings.

Step-by-step pages: VRChat, Discord, live subtitles.

TalkFerry for Android

The face-to-face translator, and the place where you buy minutes and manage the devices on your account.

What you need

  • An Android phone with Android 7.0 or later and Google Play
  • An internet connection
  • A Google account to sign in
  • Microphone access to talk, and camera access only if you scan a PC’s QR code

Pair your PC

  • On the PC, choose Pair with phone. It shows a QR code and an eight-character code for five minutes.
  • On the phone, open Devices, then Pair a PC, and scan the code or type it.
  • Confirm on the phone. The PC signs in and uses the same minute balance.

What the phone app does

Removing TalkFerry

  • Windows: uninstall TalkFerry from Settings, Apps, Installed apps. Your settings and sign-in stay in the talkferry folder under %APPDATA%; delete it to remove them too. To remove the audio cable, uninstall VB-CABLE from the same list.
  • Android: uninstall the app as usual.
  • Uninstalling does not delete your account or your minutes. To delete the account, use Settings, then Delete account, in the Android app, or see account deletion.

Download and setup questions

Do I need a powerful PC, a graphics card or an API key?

No. The translation runs in the cloud, so TalkFerry does not use your GPU and leaves your frame rate alone. There is no API key to create or paste: you sign in with Google and start. You do need an internet connection.

Is there an iPhone or Mac version?

Not yet. TalkFerry is available for Android phones and Windows PCs. An iPhone app is planned.

Do I need an Android phone to buy minutes?

For now, yes. Minute packs are sold through Google Play in the Android app. The PC app uses the same balance: pair it with your phone or sign in with the same Google account. You can try the PC app with the 5 free minutes without a phone.

Where is TalkFerry available?

TalkFerry is offered worldwide. The Android app and the minute packs come through Google Play, so they are available wherever Google Play is. You must be 18 or older.

Is the virtual audio cable safe?

The TalkFerry installer offers VB-CABLE, a widely used virtual audio driver made by VB-Audio, downloaded from its maker. Windows asks for administrator permission because it is a driver. It adds two audio devices, CABLE Input and CABLE Output, and you can remove it from Windows’ installed apps list at any time.

Try it with the first 5 minutes free

Every account starts with 5 free minutes on the PC and the phone. No card, no subscription.
