Real-time voice translator for Discord calls and voice channels

You talk in your language and the call hears the translation. TalkFerry works as your input device, so there is no bot to invite and nothing for your friends to set up.

5 free minutes to start. For Discord on Windows.

Does Discord have a voice translator?

No. As of September 2026 Discord does not translate voice, so TalkFerry becomes your microphone: it takes your real mic, translates what you say and plays the result into a virtual audio cable. In Discord you pick that cable as your input device.

  • Works in every kind of call

Server voice channels, group calls and one-to-one calls behave the same, because Discord only sees a microphone.

  • No bot, no permissions

Nothing joins the channel and no admin has to approve anything. It runs on your own PC.

  • A voice, not a text thread

People hear the translation in the call. You can listen to it quietly yourself to check what was said.

  • Captions for what they say

Understand mode subtitles the call in your language in a small panel next to Discord.

How to translate a Discord call in real time

  1. Install TalkFerry

Run the installer on your Windows PC. It offers VB-CABLE, a free virtual audio cable, and asks you to restart. Then pair TalkFerry with the phone app or sign in with Google.

  2. Change your input device

In Discord open User Settings, then Voice & Video, and set Input Device to CABLE Output. Leave your output device as it is.

  3. Pick languages and talk

Choose what you speak and what the call should hear, then turn on Translate. With Translate off, your own voice passes through unchanged.

If the translated voice sounds clipped, try turning off noise suppression and echo cancellation for that input in Discord: they are tuned for a live microphone, not for a synthetic voice.

Bots, caption apps and virtual microphones

There are three ways to translate a Discord call. They solve different problems.

Approach Who gets the translation What it needs Good for
A bot in the voice channel Everyone in the channel hears or reads it Permission to add a bot to the server; does not work in direct calls Communities that want one shared translator
A caption app on your PC Only you, as text An app that listens to your system audio Following a call you mostly listen to
A virtual microphone (TalkFerry) The call hears your translated voice; you get captions of theirs A virtual audio cable on your PC, selected as your input device Taking part in the conversation, in any server or direct call

Each approach, step by step

What to expect

  • The voice the call hears is a synthetic voice, not a copy of yours.
  • It follows a second or two behind you, so leave a short pause when you hand over to someone else.
  • It runs on Windows. On a phone, Discord cannot use TalkFerry as its microphone.
  • It is paid after the first 5 minutes: you buy minute packs and only processed speech counts. Pricing
  • TalkFerry is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Discord.

Discord questions

Do the people I talk to need to install anything?

No. On PC, TalkFerry acts as your microphone, so everyone else simply hears the translated voice in the app they already use. On the phone, one phone is enough: the other person reads and listens on the half of the screen that faces them.

How fast is the translation?

It is simultaneous rather than sentence by sentence: the translated voice starts while you are still talking and usually runs about one to two seconds behind you. The panel shows the current delay. Speed depends on your connection and on how busy the translation service is.

Does Discord have a built-in voice translator?

No. As of September 2026 Discord does not translate voice calls or voice channels. To be heard in another language you need something that sits between your microphone and Discord, which is what TalkFerry does: you choose the TalkFerry cable as your input device and the people in the call hear the translation.

Is TalkFerry a Discord bot?

No. There is nothing to invite and no server permissions to grant. TalkFerry runs on your own PC and works as your microphone, so it behaves the same in a server voice channel, a group call and a direct call. TalkFerry is not affiliated with or endorsed by Discord.

Is the translation a voice or captions?

Both, in different directions. What you say goes out as a spoken voice (and as chatbox text in VRChat). What other people say comes to you as live captions in the TalkFerry panel, and you can also have it read out in your headphones.

How much does TalkFerry cost?

Every account starts with 5 free minutes, no card needed. After that you buy minute packs in the Android app: 60 minutes for $6.99, 200 minutes for $19.99 or 500 minutes for $44.99. There is no subscription. The price shown in Google Play, in your currency and with local taxes, is the one you pay.

Does it copy my voice?

No. The translated voice is a synthetic voice, not a clone of yours.
